وُلد في حلب عام ١٩٣٤، أصبح من أكثر الأسماء السورية قدرةً على التقاط الإنسان في لحظته اليومية والسياسية معاً. لا تقوم أهمية كيالي على المهارة التقنية وحدها، بل على حساسيته العالية في تصوير الداخل الإنساني للشخصيات التي رسمها. Born in Aleppo in 1934, he became one of the most capable Syrian names in capturing the human being in both their daily and political moments. Kayyali's importance lies not only in technical skill but in his high sensitivity in portraying the human interior of the characters he painted.
ظل يبحث في أعماله عن «روح» السوريين لا عن مظهرهم الخارجي فقط. من أشهر أعماله «Fishermen of Arwad»، كما تناول شخصيات مثل ماسح الأحذية والمرأة الخياطة والقيلولة. تمتاز أعماله بنبرة إنسانية حزينة وتصوير طبقات المجتمع المهمشة. He always searched in his works for the "soul" of Syrians, not just their outward appearance. Among his most famous works is "Fishermen of Arwad," and he depicted characters such as the shoeshine boy, the seamstress woman, and the afternoon nap. His works are distinguished by a sad humanist tone and the portrayal of marginalized social classes.
